Each child was responsible for tracking the
medals won by the country they were assigned. The countries were drawn at
random except for two students whose family ancestry was closely connected
to their countries. The class took turns tracking the medals of the
USA. |
 |
Students shared their information with the
school by creating the large graph in the hallway. Students also
participated in activities that had them locating their country on a map,
understanding the meaning behind the logos of the Olympics and the Salt Lake
City Olympics and designing souvenir tickets to different events. |
| The activity will culminate with the students
coming to conclusions about the data. Children will also develop
explanations as to why some countries perform better at the winter games
than others. (Based on population, location and number of athletes
participating.) |

Each child tallied the medals
daily as the rest of the
school daily anticipated
the results. |
