Mrs. Combra's Class

Crayfish (KITES)

Mrs. Combra's class studied structures of life.  The children cared for crayfish, learned about their habitat and territory.  A language lesson about writing quotations was incorporated into the Science content.

Our Class Recipes

This is a collection of procedural writings.  The children participated in several lessons.  We started by learning about verbs.  We practiced writing "vibrant" verbs for tired words.  Each student illustrated sentences using a vibrant verb for the word.  They included words such as:

swallowed
inhaled
stuffed
bit
dined

After that we read "The Cafeteria From the Black Lagoon."  Next we chose a food that we enjoyed eating with our families.  The children wrote recipes using key words such as first, next, than, after that, later, at last and finally.  The recipes were revised, proofread and shared and compiled into a book that you see here.

This next set of pictures shows the children making graphs using different
counters.  Using problem solving techniques, the children will then create a graph to explain the results of the problem.

This second child is making a graph with frog counters.
